Tirthpuri Kailashis the third most important Buddhist pilgrimage site in western Tibet. Another name for this Parvat is Bhasmasur Parvat and is situated at the northwest of Mt.Kailash and the north bank of the Sutlej River. Tirthapuri(4310m) is famous for its sacred hot springs and Guru Rinpoche monastery (Tirthapuri monastery). To reach Tirthapuri one need to drive 65km west of Darchen and then 9km south of Mensi(Moincer).
According to Hindu sculptures, once a dupe demon named Bhasmasur performed the hardest and deepest penance (Tapas=self-Purification) of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva, Bholenath (easily to make happy God), came in front of him and granted him his wish.
After the completion of mount Kailash kora, pilgrims come here to have a bath in pools full of water by hot springs. After having the bath, they may visit to Tirthapuri Monastery. One the way to this place, colorful prayer flags flattering in the wind and chortens decorating the barren landscape attract the eyes of visitors. Here, visitors must see the Karma Testing hole. This Hole is in the rock beneath the prayer wheel. This is not a common hole, but it’s the hole where visitors check their Karma level. As per Hindu mythology, the god himself has created this hole.
For testing the Karma level, you just have to enter the hole and take out two stones. If you take two white stones out, it’s mean your karma level is good, and therefore, Shiv Ji is already happy with you. If you take out one white and one black stone, then it’s mean you need some improvement in good karma. Therefore, you should judge yourself before doing anything. FI you take out two black stones, then it’s a matter to worry for you. Taking two black stone out from this hole represents you as an evil soul. Therefore, you need to change your way of living.
